An Opportunity for Prevention: Associations Between the Life's Essential 8 Score and Cardiovascular Incidence Using Prospective Data from UK Biobank

Summary: In this prospective study with over 250,000 participants from UK Biobank, the association between the Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score and four cardiovascular outcomes (ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure) was investigated. The study found that individuals with lower LE8 scores had a higher risk of experiencing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), particularly heart failure.

Life's Essential 8: Updating and Enhancing the American Heart Association's Construct of Cardiovascular Health: A Presidential Advisory From the American Heart Association

However, subsequent evidence revealed limitations in the original approach, leading the association to convene a writing group to recommend enhancements and updates.
