Diverse terahertz wavefront manipulations empowered by the spatially interleaved metasurfaces

Jitao Li et al.

Summary: This paper designs spatially interleaved terahertz metasurfaces based on the ingenious spatial interleaving principles and demonstrates diverse wavefront manipulations in the terahertz range. The functions performed include OAM superposition of single-frequency vortex beams, separate vortex focusing of single-frequency dual beams, different OAM manipulations of bifrequency beams in different planes, and achromatic focusing. These functions prove that spatially interleaved metasurfaces can manipulate terahertz wavefronts at both single frequency and bifrequency, which traditional metasurfaces cannot. This work paves the way for diverse terahertz wavefront manipulations.

Terahertz Pulse Generation with Binary Phase Control in Nonlinear InAs Metasurface

Hyunseung Jung et al.

Summary: The effect of terahertz (THz) pulse generation has revolutionized broadband coherent spectroscopy and imaging at THz frequencies. However, THz pulses typically lack spatial structure, whereas structured beams are becoming essential for advanced spectroscopy applications. This study develops a nonlinear InAs metasurface consisting of nanoscale optical resonators for simultaneous generation and structuring of THz beams. The control of spatiotemporal structure using nanoscale emitters opens doors for THz beam engineering and advanced spectroscopy and imaging applications.

Metasurface-based THz reflectarray antenna with vortex multiplexing and beam-steering capabilities for future wireless communications

Ali Ali et al.

Summary: This article investigates the unexplored potentials of vortices or orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams using the low-cost and high-gain dielectric reflectarray antennas (RAs) at the terahertz band. It proposes a paradigm to enable 3D beam-steering or OAM multiplexing by a single structure via tilted OAM beams. The proposed paradigm can be utilized to produce RAs with beam-steering or OAM multiplexing capabilities as candidates for THz indoor communications.

Metasurface Terahertz Perfect Absorber with Strong Multi-Frequency Selectivity

Qiangguo Zhou et al.

Summary: In this paper, a metasurface terahertz perfect absorber with multi-frequency selectivity and good incident angle compatibility is designed and analyzed. The absorber exhibits five selective absorption peaks at different frequencies, and the effect of polarized electromagnetic wave modes and the size of the open rings on device performance is investigated. The designed metasurface absorber also shows excellent tunable modulation by adjusting two-dimensional materials and photosensitive semiconductor materials embedded in the unit structure. The results of this work have important implications for applications such as resonators, biodetection, beam-controlled antennas, hyperspectral thermal imaging systems, and sensors.

Theoretical approach to verify the resonance frequency of a square split ring resonator

S. K. Samanta et al.

Summary: An analytical model for a square split ring resonator (S-SRR) is proposed to estimate the fundamental resonance frequency of the ring. The model accounts for the equivalent self-inductance and total capacitance of the ring, which are influenced by both the medium in the split-gap and the dielectric constant of the substrate. Simulation results agree well with the analytical results, demonstrating the model's usefulness for studying resonant properties of split rings in the microwave and terahertz regions.
