Fine-tuned fabrication parameters of CaO catalyst pellets for transesterification of palm oil to biodiesel

Warisara Woranuch et al.

Summary: In recent years, attention has been focused on the use of heterogeneous catalysts, with CaO powder being considered a promising catalyst for biodiesel production. Through investigation of catalyst pellet fabrication parameters, it was found that using an Al2O3 binder resulted in higher catalytic activity compared to kaolin and diatomite supported catalysts. The CaO to Al2O3 mass ratio significantly affected surface area and total basicity, with the CaO-A(800)-3.5:1 catalyst showing the highest biodiesel yield due to the presence of multiple active crystal phases.

Enhanced performance of iron-cerium NOx reduction catalysts by sulfuric acid treatment: The synergistic effect of surface acidity and redox capacity

Yanping Ma et al.

Summary: CeO2-based catalysts have garnered attention in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3, but their poor T-90 operation window hinders industrial application. A study introducing sulfuric acid treatment to FeOx-CeO2 mixed oxides for NH3-SCR showed significantly improved high temperature activity and broadened operation window, attributed to increased redox capacity and surface acidity. This enhancement in performance was associated with the synergistic effect of these two parameters, favoring the formation of active intermediate species for N2 generation and inhibiting the formation of N2O and NOx, resulting in high catalytic activity and N2 selectivity.
