Rigorous simulation of geothermal power plants to evaluate environmental performance of alternative configurations

Marco Vaccari et al.

Summary: Different configurations of geothermal power plants (GPPs) were simulated to assess their environmental impacts. The simulations used rigorous thermodynamic models and primary data collected from monitoring campaigns. The analysis showed that the choice of cooling system greatly influenced pollutant emissions, with the dry tower system emitting the least pollutants but generating less net energy compared to other configurations. The amount of CO2 and CH4 emissions remained unchanged across all configurations.
