The ethyl acetate extract from Abutilon fruticosum Guill and Perr. as a potential diabetes-cancer prophylactic: A cytotoxic, a-glucosidase, and in-silico study

Hanaa Mohamed Gouda et al.

Summary: Bioassay-guided fractionation of Abutilon fruticosum extracts showed that the ethyl acetate extract exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against lung and liver carcinoma cell lines and potent α-glucosidase inhibitory (AGI) activity. Six compounds were identified, including four phenylethyl cinnamic acid derivatives, which showed structural similarities to acarbose and demonstrated potential as AGIs. Compounds 1 and 2, with carboxylic acid moieties, were found to be more potent AGIs than compounds 3 and 4 without this moiety. (c) 2023 SAAB. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Cytotoxicity of Newly Synthesized Quinazoline-Sulfonamide Derivatives in Human Leukemia Cell Lines and Their Effect on Hematopoiesis in Zebrafish Embryos

Ali S. Alqahtani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anti-leukemic activities of fourteen quinazoline derivatives bearing a substituted sulfonamide moiety against two different leukemia cell lines. The most potent compounds, 4a and 4d, were found to suppress cell proliferation, induce apoptosis, and perturb hematopoiesis in developing zebrafish embryos. These findings suggest that compounds 4a and 4d have potential as anti-leukemic agents.

Plants as a Source of Anticancer Agents: From Bench to Bedside

Wamidh H. Talib et al.

Summary: Cancer, the second leading cause of death, is often treated with therapies that lack selectivity and have serious side effects. This review discusses how plant-derived natural products with diverse chemical structures and low toxicity have the potential to be more effective anticancer therapies by targeting multiple cancer hallmarks. The majority of the natural products discussed in this review inhibit cancer by targeting multiple hallmarks, and some have progressed to clinical applications. Overall, this research provides a solid foundation for designing combination anticancer therapies using plant-derived natural products.

Preparation of carbon quantum dots- quinic acid for drug delivery of gemcitabine to breast cancer cells

Shabnam Samimi et al.

Summary: The study prepared nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots and conjugated them with quinic acid for targeted treatment of breast cancer cells. Through a series of characterizations and fluorescent spectroscopy, the excellent properties of these nanoparticles were demonstrated. The results suggest that quinic acid-conjugated N-CQDs exhibit promising potential as multifunctional theranostic agents.

Targeting cell-cycle machinery in cancer

Jan M. Suski et al.

Summary: Abnormal activity of the core cell-cycle machinery drives tumorigenesis in most tumor types, with cell-cycle proteins regulating a wide range of cellular functions in addition to cell division. Inhibiting different cell-cycle proteins shows potential as an effective anti-cancer strategy, as evidenced by the clinical success of CDK4/6 inhibitors.

Anticancer activities of parthenolide in primary effusion lymphoma preclinical models

Louna Karam et al.

Summary: Parthenolide, a major component of feverfew, has been extensively studied for its anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. It inhibits the NF-kappa B pathway and shows promising effects in inhibiting cell growth and inducing apoptosis in PEL cells. Its prodrug DMAPT also demonstrates potential therapeutic benefits in PEL treatment.
