Multicriteria Decision Analysis of Suitable Location for Wind and Photovoltaic Power Plants on the Galapagos Islands

Geovanna Villacreses et al.

Summary: The Galapagos Islands have been declared a World Heritage site due to their unique biodiversity. However, their dependence on fossil fuel energies has led to harmful air quality, impacting the flora and fauna. To protect the islands, zero-carbon initiatives such as solar and wind power plants have been studied as alternatives. By using Geographical Information Systems and decision methods, potential locations for these energy sources were identified, with Baltra Island being the best location for wind power plants.

Predicted Medium Vote Thermal Comfort Analysis Applying Energy Simulations with Phase Change Materials for Very Hot-Humid Climates in Social Housing in Ecuador

Luis Godoy-Vaca et al.

Summary: This study aims to estimate the expected hours of Predicted Medium Vote (PMV) thermal comfort in Ecuadorian social housing using energy simulations with Phase Change Materials (PCMs) for very hot-humid climates. A novel methodology for characterizing three different types of social housing based on electricity consumption analysis is proposed. Results show that changing the deck and using RT25-RT30 in walls can increase the duration of thermal comfort, with the applied PCM resulting in 46% of comfortable hours and a reduction of 937 hours with varying thermal sensation.
