Summary: A rhizospheric bacterium, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens XJ-BV2007, was isolated from tomato fields in Xinjiang, China. It was found to have strong antagonistic effects against Alternaria alternata and can reduce the accumulation of alternaria toxins in tomatoes. The study identified fengycin as an important compound for inhibiting A. alternata. This research is the first to report the efficient control of tomato black spot disease and mycotoxins using B. amyloliquefaciens.

Summary: This study explores toxic mechanisms in mycotoxins and finds that mycotoxins may induce neurodegenerative diseases, although this idea is not yet proven. In addition to validating this hypothesis, questions regarding how mycotoxins induce the disease, the molecular mechanism involved, and the role of the brain-gut axis need to be answered. Recent studies have also highlighted an immune evasion mechanism in trichothecenes, and the role of hypoxia in this process, but further investigation is needed to determine if this mechanism is present in other mycotoxins like aflatoxins.

Summary: Bacillus albus YUN5, isolated from doenjang, showed high degradation capabilities for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and aflatoxin G1 (AFG1). The cell-free supernatant (CFS) of B. albus YUN5 exhibited the highest degradation efficiency, while negligible degradation was observed in other fractions. Optimal degradation conditions were determined to be 55℃, pH 7-10, and salt concentration of 0-20%. Liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy analysis revealed the target sites of degradation. The application of B. albus YUN5 in doenjang fermentation showed better reduction of AFB1 and AFG1 compared to without B. albus YUN5.

Summary: Plants have the ability to regulate their resistance against stresses, and the interactions between plants and microorganisms in the rhizosphere play a crucial role in this response. Plant growth regulators such as salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, and ethylene are involved in the regulation of basal resistance against pathogens. Induced systemic resistance (ISR) mediated by plant beneficial microbial strains is independent of the pathogen-activated systemic acquired resistance (SAR) mediated by salicylic acid. Different components of microbial strains involved in ISR have been identified and characterized using plant-pathogen model systems. This article provides an update on ISR and the role of non-expressor of pathogenesis-related gene 1 (NPR1) and other bacterial elicitors in their interaction with plants, with a focus on the underlying factors involved in systemic resistance.
