Summary: The study found that elabela can inhibit hypertension-induced pathological cardiac remodeling and fibrosis by modulating the IL-6/STAT3/GPX4 signaling pathway. Targeting the elabela-APJ axis may serve as a novel strategy for hypertensive heart diseases.

Ferroptosis: a cell death connecting oxidative stress, inflammation and cardiovascular diseases

Yi Yu et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is a newly identified iron-dependent cell death mechanism that differs from other cell death pathways, characterized by lipid peroxidation and accumulation of redox-active iron. Studies suggest that ferroptosis plays a crucial role in various cardiovascular diseases, and targeting ferroptosis may present a novel therapeutic approach in treating these conditions.

Use of Intravascular Imaging in Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction

Michael Megaly et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of intravascular imaging in STEMI patients undergoing PCI was associated with lower in-hospital mortality and higher index hospitalization cost. The patients who underwent intravascular imaging were more likely to have acute stent thrombosis and present with anterior STEMI. However, the risk of in-hospital complications and discharge to a facility were similar between the group with intravascular imaging and the group without it.

National trends of utilization and readmission rates with intravascular ultrasound use for ST-elevation myocardial infarction

Lina Ya'qoub et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the utilization and readmission rates for IVUS-guided PCI in STEMI patients, finding that IVUS use is slowly increasing and associated with lower in-hospital mortality, lower rates of readmission due to acute MI, as well as lower PCI and mortality rates during readmission. Randomized trials are needed to further evaluate the long-term benefits of IVUS in STEMI.

The Role of Apelin/Apelin Receptor in Energy Metabolism and Water Homeostasis: A Comprehensive Narrative Review

Gonghui Hu et al.

Summary: The apelin/APJ system plays crucial roles in various physiological and pathological functions, such as fluid homeostasis, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. In addition to forming a complex with its ligand and associated G proteins, APJ may interact with other GPCRs to selectively modulate different signal transduction pathways. Further research on the metabolism and signaling pathways associated with the apelin/APJ system is necessary to provide more precise guidance for the development of clinical drugs.

Summary: The study demonstrates that by incorporating non-canonical amino acids into apelin analogues, their plasma half-life can be significantly increased and they exhibit moderate blood pressure-lowering effects. These modified analogues show potential clinical applications in preventing ischemia reperfusion injury.
