Augmenting apoptosis-mediated anticancer activity of lactoperoxidase and lactoferrin by nanocombination with copper and iron hybrid nanometals

Esmail M. El-Fakharany et al.

Summary: There is an urgent need to discover biocompatible nanoformulations with low cytotoxicity in the field of medicine. Bovine lactoperoxidase (LP) and lactoferrin (LF) have shown antitumor activities and are considered safe proteins. Coating or adsorbing LP and LF onto copper and iron nanometals can create stable nanoformulations that enhance immunity and have strong anticancer effects. The combination of LP-CNPs and LF-FNPs exhibited the highest growth inhibitory efficacy and apoptotic effect against cancer cells.

Ambulatory COVID-19 Patients Treated with Lactoferrin as a Supplementary Antiviral Agent: A Preliminary Study

Luigi Rosa et al.

Summary: Lactoferrin may be an important supplementary treatment for COVID-19, as it can shorten the time needed for SARS-CoV-2 RNA negativization, reduce symptoms, restore iron homeostasis, and exhibit antiviral activity when combined with other therapies. Experimental results show that patients treated with lactoferrin recover significantly faster.
