The healing effects of thymoquinone on experimentally induced traumatic tendinopathy in rabbits

Alireza Soltanfar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the healing effect of thymoquinone injections in a rabbit tendon injury model. The results showed that the injection of 10% concentration of thymoquinone improved mechanical performance and collagen synthesis, making it a simple and low-cost treatment for traumatic tendon injuries in rabbits.

Evaluation of Conventional and Hyaluronic Acid-Coated Thymoquinone Liposomes in an In Vitro Model of Dry Eye

Elisa Landucci et al.

Summary: Dry eye disease is a common ocular disorder characterized by inadequate lubrication of the eye, leading to inflammation and ocular surface changes. Current treatments have limitations in terms of side effects and effectiveness. Thymoquinone-loaded liposomes have shown potential as a therapeutic agent for dry eye disease, improving effectiveness in reducing oxidative and inflammatory processes.

Experimental and Theoretical Insights on Chemopreventive Effect of the Liposomal Thymoquinone Against Benzo[a]pyrene-Induced Lung Cancer in Swiss Albino Mice

Arif Khan et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared a novel formulation of TQ and evaluated its potential in chemoprevention in a chemically induced lung cancer animal model. The results showed that TQPSL could restore lung organ weight, cancer marker enzyme levels, and serum antioxidant enzyme levels, reduce malignancy in the lungs, induce apoptosis, and decrease intracellular ROS levels. Furthermore, molecular docking results suggested that TQ may have a strong affinity for the BRAF target.

Summary: Anti-inflammatory therapies have been proven effective in preventing various cardiovascular diseases, tumors, and cancer complications. Thymoquinone (TQ), the main active component of Nigella sativa, shows promising therapeutic properties, but its bioavailability is poor. The combination of TQ with nanomaterials improves its bioavailability and makes it ready for clinical trials as a potential therapeutic agent.

Summary: The study compared the anti-cancer activity of free thymoquinone and thymoquinone-loaded liposomes on melanoma cells. The results showed that thymoquinone had different antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects on different melanoma cell lines, and thymoquinone-loaded liposomes exhibited stronger cytotoxicity on the cells.

Preparation of Liposomal Formulations for Ocular Delivery of Thymoquinone: In Vitro Evaluation in HCEC-2 e HConEC Cells

Elisa Landucci et al.

Summary: Two liposomal formulations, one of which is coated with hyaluronic acid, have been developed to enhance the solubility of Thymoquinone (TQ) and increase its absorption at the cellular level, especially in the nucleus. These formulations not only decrease TQ toxicity observed at high doses in cells, but also result in a gradual and prolonged release of TQ in both coated and uncoated liposomes.
