Strategies for sustained drug release from electrospun multi-layer nanostructures

Deng-Guang Yu et al.

Summary: This review discusses the history and trends of the combination of electrospinning technology and sustained drug release (SDR), introducing 15 strategies for providing SDR profiles through multi-chamber core-shell nanostructures. Electrospun multi-chamber nanostructures are considered to be helpful in promoting the development of sustained drug release formulations.

The Role of Cryotherapy in Vitreous Concentrations of Topotecan Delivered by Episcleral Hydrogel Implant

Martina Kodetova et al.

Summary: Transscleral diffusion delivery of chemotherapy is a promising method for treating retinoblastoma, the most common intraocular malignancy in childhood. In this study, the delivery of topotecan via lens-shaped, bi-layered hydrogel implants combined with transconjunctival cryotherapy was evaluated. The results showed that cryotherapy led to significantly higher concentrations of topotecan in the vitreous compared to non-cryotherapy.

A smart tri-layered nanofibrous hydrogel thin film with controlled release of dual drugs for chemo-thermal therapy of breast cancer

Shadi Asgari et al.

Summary: A tri-layered nanofibrous hydrogel thin film with temperature sensitivity is introduced as a new controlled drug release system for breast cancer treatment. By using visible light radiation, heat can be generated simultaneously with the tunable release of dual drugs. The nanofibrous hydrogel thin film exhibits good thermal stability and tensile strength, and the drug release can be controlled by temperature and light radiation.
