A simple and straightforward combination of surfactant-assisted magnetic dispersive micro-solid-phase extraction and hydride generation procedure to determine arsenic (III) species in environmental, biological, and fruit juice samples

Fateme Fallah Tafti et al.

Summary: This study developed a surfactant-assisted dispersive micro-solid-phase extraction method combined with a chemical hydride generation strategy for the determination of arsenic (III) species. The method successfully extracted and preconcentrated arsenic (III) species from environmental, biological, and fruit samples. The use of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide as the dispersion agent yielded the best results. By optimizing experimental conditions, a linear range and determination coefficient were obtained. The proposed method demonstrated low detection limits, high enrichment factors, and good repeatability and applicability for arsenic (III) determination.

Effects of Fe3O4 Magnetic Nanoparticle Functionalization with Ionic Liquids and a Double-Chained Surfactant on the Pretreatment of Plasma Samples during Drug Extraction

Natalia Treder et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids and surfactants were used as coating materials for magnetic sorbents in the pretreatment of human plasma samples. Results showed that nanoparticles coated with both silica and an ionic liquid or surfactant had higher extraction efficiency compared to particles coated solely with silica. Additionally, the adsorption of analytes depended on the coating procedure and the type of coating material used.

POLRMT as a Novel Susceptibility Gene for Cardiotoxicity in Epirubicin Treatment of Breast Cancer Patients

Alejandro Velasco-Ruiz et al.

Summary: A novel gene variant, rs62134260 located upstream of POLRMT, was identified through a two-stage genome-wide association study as a potential predictor of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity in breast cancer patients. This variant was found to regulate the expression of POLRMT, impacting mitochondrial gene expression in heart tissue and potentially leading to impaired mitochondrial maintenance in cardiomyocytes under stress conditions like epirubicin treatment. This discovery suggests a new molecular mechanism involved in AIC development and may enhance our ability to predict at-risk patients.

An in situ modification sorbent for magnetic dispersive micro solid-phase extraction of anti-inflammatory drugs in the human urine sample before their determination with high-performance liquid chromatography

Zohreh Bagheri Zomoorodi et al.

Summary: A selective and straightforward microextraction procedure based on dispersive micro solid-phase extraction was introduced for the simultaneous separation and preconcentration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Under optimized conditions, the procedure showed good linearity, enrichment factors, and low detection limits for the drugs in water samples. High recoveries and appropriate relative standard deviations were achieved when the method was applied to human urine samples for NSAIDs determination.
