The wound healing effect of botanicals and pure natural substances used in in vivo models

S. A. El-Sherbeni et al.

Summary: The process of wound repair involves the coordination of different cell types and the formation of collagen to promote wound contraction, epithelial cell proliferation, and healing. The use of traditional medicinal plants in wound healing has been practiced for centuries, and recent scientific research supports their efficacy. This review focuses on the wound-healing effects of plant extracts and natural substances in animal models over the past 5 years, showing promising results in various phases of wound healing. Incorporating bioactive natural products into wound dressings has shown positive effects in hemostasis, inflammation, growth, re-epithelialization, and remodeling.

Hypertrophic Granulation Wounds Treated With Silver Nitrate Sticks or With Topical Steroid: Rate of Wound Closure

Paul K. Linneman et al.

Summary: Comparing the use of silver nitrate cautery and 1% hydrocortisone cream for treating hypertrophic granulation wounds showed that hydrocortisone treatment resulted in faster healing than silver nitrate cautery treatment. Further controlled and randomized studies are needed for confirmation.

An in vitro Study of Betadine's Ability to Eliminate Live Bacteria on the Eye: Should It Be Used for Protection against Endophthalmitis?

Alyssa Nagle et al.

Summary: The study found that the zone of inhibition assay alone cannot accurately assess antimicrobial properties and should be followed by a colony-forming unit assay. Betadine solutions at 2.5% and 5% did not show effective antimicrobial properties against the bacteria tested, while 10% Betadine was only effective against Staphylococcus aureus.

Titanium dioxide nanotubes conjugated with quercetin function as an effective anticancer agent by inducing apoptosis in melanoma cells

Surendra Gulla et al.

Summary: The study explored the anticancer activity of titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNT), quercetin, and TNT-Qu in B16F10 melanoma skin cancer cells. TNT-Qu demonstrated significantly higher inhibition of cell proliferation, migration, and induced more apoptosis compared to TNT or quercetin alone. Additionally, the combination treatment decreased reactive oxygen species levels and arrested cells in G2/M phase more effectively. This novel combinational molecule shows promise for potential therapeutic use in skin cancer treatment.
