Exosomes as a new frontier of cancer liquid biopsy

Dan Yu et al.

Summary: Liquid biopsy, a revolutionary strategy for cancer diagnosis and prognosis prediction, uses minimally invasive detection through biofluids such as blood, saliva, and urine. Exosomes, a subset of extracellular vesicles, play a crucial role in intercellular communication and are considered as potential biomarkers in liquid biopsy. However, the lack of high-quality separation and component analysis methods has limited the further clinical application of exosomes.

Screening for MicroRNA combination with engineered exosomes as a new tool against osteosarcoma in elderly patients

Jiyu Han et al.

Summary: Osteogenic sarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant bone sarcoma, and its treatment is less effective for elderly patients. In this study, a new microRNA (miRNA) was identified that can bind to engineered exosomes for the treatment of older OS patients. Through experiments and analysis, the miR-449a /CCNB1 axis was found to be involved in inhibiting cell proliferation in osteosarcoma. These findings not only reveal a novel mechanism in OS but also lay the groundwork for further research in exosome engineering.

Cisplatin-resistant osteosarcoma cell-derived exosomes confer cisplatin resistance to recipient cells in an exosomal circ_103801-dependent manner

Yuanxing Pan et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that exosomal hsa_circ_103801 is upregulated in serum exosomes of osteosarcoma patients, with high expression correlating with shorter survival. The exosomal hsa_circ_103801 can be transferred to other cells through exosomes and contributes to chemoresistance in osteosarcoma cells. This implies a potential prognostic biomarker and target for overcoming drug resistance in osteosarcoma.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Extracellular Vesicles in Osteosarcoma Pathogenesis and Therapy

Virinder Kaur Sarhadi et al.

Summary: Osteosarcoma is an aggressive bone tumor that predominantly affects children and adolescents, with a strong tendency to relapse and metastasize, posing challenges in identifying new therapeutic targets. Mesenchymal stem cells play a significant role in osteosarcoma development, contributing to tumor progression through intercellular signaling and communication.

Future Directions in the Treatment of Osteosarcoma

Alannah Smrke et al.

Summary: Osteosarcoma, the most common primary bone sarcoma, is often diagnosed in the 2nd-3rd decades of life with outcomes not significantly changed for over thirty years. Response to neoadjuvant MAP chemotherapy is predictive of treatment outcome. Effective treatment with reduced toxicity is needed for high-risk patients, along with predictive biomarkers to guide therapy decisions.

CircDOCK1 promotes the tumorigenesis and cisplatin resistance of osteogenic sarcoma via the miR-339-3p/IGF1R axis

Shenglong Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that circDOCK1 promotes progression and regulates cisplatin sensitivity in osteogenic sarcoma (OS) via the miR-339-3p/IGF1R axis. This indicates that the circDOCK1/miR-339-3p/IGF1R axis may be a key mechanism and potential therapeutic target in OS.
