Plasmon-Mediated Peroxidase-like Activity on an Asymmetric Nanotube Architecture for Rapid Visual Detection of Bacteria

Chenxi Zhao et al.

Summary: A visual bacterial sensing assay based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-enhanced peroxidase (POD) mimetic has been developed for the rapid and sensitive detection of bacteria. The assay utilizes Pt nanoparticles (NPs) asymmetrically decorated on Au/TiO2 magnetic nanotubes (Au/Pt/MTNTs) as the POD mimetic, which combines the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 and the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of asymmetric nanotubes to enhance the catalytic performance. The assay achieves excellent specificity, anti-interference ability, and sensitivity, and can be applied in real samples with satisfactory selectivity and feasibility. This plasmon-enhanced POD activity provides a simple-yet-effective approach for colorimetric bioassays with high efficiency and sensitivity.
