Epigenetic study of early breast cancer (EBC) based on DNA methylation and gene integration analysis

Wenshan Zhang et al.

Summary: Since breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in women, this study aimed to identify key molecular markers for the diagnosis and prognosis of early breast cancer. Through the analysis of genomic data and experimental validation, potential diagnostic gene biomarkers for breast cancer were discovered, and the role of one of these genes in cell proliferation and migration was explored. The findings of this research have significant implications for the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Novel regulation mechanism of adrenal cortisol and DHEA biosynthesis via the endogen ERAD inhibitor small VCP-interacting protein

Recep Ilhan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulation mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) and the expression of SVIP (small VCP-interacting protein) in rat adrenal gland. The study revealed that SVIP plays a role in the biosynthesis of cortisol and DHEA, suggesting its potential involvement in the deregulation of steroidogenic stimulator signaling and abnormal adrenal hormone secretion.

Alyssa E. Johnson et al.

Summary: Valosin-Containing Protein (VCP) is associated with various degenerative diseases. The Small VCP Interacting Protein (SVIP) recruits VCP to lysosomes, with loss or overexpression of SVIP affecting neural degeneration, animal behavior, and lifespan.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Identification of VIMP as a gene inhibiting cytokine production in human CD4+ effector T cells

Christophe M. Capelle et al.

Summary: By using a correlation-network-guided approach, VIMP was identified as a gene regulating effector functions of human CD4 T cells, especially cytokine production. VIMP acts as an endogenous inhibitor of cytokine production in CD4 effector T cells via the E2F5 transcription regulatory pathway and the Ca2+/NFATC2 signaling pathway. This work suggests that VIMP may be a potential therapeutic target for inflammation-related diseases and highlights the utility of a network-guided approach in predicting new gene functions.
