Classification of Parabacteroides distasonis and other Bacteroidetes using O- antigen virulence gene: RfbA-Typing and hypothesis for pathogenic vs. probiotic strain differentiation

Nicholas C. Bank et al.

Summary: In this study, a classification system based on the rfbA gene was developed to characterize the pathogenicity and probiotic properties of Pdis and Bacteroidetes. Analysis of 14 Pdis complete genomes revealed four lineages within Pdis. In addition, a PCR primer strategy for other Bacteroidetes was proposed. Comparative analysis confirmed the high discriminant power of rfbA.

Summary: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are a new class of drugs that effectively manage type 2 diabetes and promote weight loss. They have been extensively studied for cardiovascular and renal safety. However, non-responsive patients may have genetic variability in the GLP-1 receptor or signaling pathways.

Parabacteroides distasonis Properties Linked to the Selection of New Biotherapeutics

Jordan Chamarande et al.

Summary: This study focused on the potential new biotherapeutic product (NBP) Parabacteroides distasonis, screening its various biotherapeutic properties and identifying five strains with promising health-promoting functions. Although all P. distasonis strains induced overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines on PBMCs, some strains showed stronger health-promoting effects and less inflammatory cytokine production.

Adipose tissue inflammation and metabolic dysfunction in obesity

Tatsuo Kawai et al.

Summary: Chronic low-grade inflammation of adipose tissue is linked to metabolic disease and organ complications, mainly caused by the secretion of inflammatory substances by adipocytes and infiltration of immune cells. Despite being low-grade, this inflammation negatively impacts remote organ function and is considered a causative factor of obesity-related complications.

Introduction to host microbiome symbiosis in health and disease

Florent Malard et al.

Summary: Humans share a core intestinal microbiome but differ in genes, species, enterotypes, and gene count. Microbiome gene count is a key factor for health in immune disorders and clinical conditions. Metagenomic analysis helps define the host-microbe symbiosis associated with a healthy status, and disruption of this symbiosis may lead to chronic diseases or iatrogenic conditions. Möglichkeiten zur Anwendung einer Mikrobiota-Modulation für personalisierte Ernährung und Therapie zur Erhaltung, Konservierung oder Wiederherstellung der Gast-Mikrobe-Symbiose werden diskutiert.

Beneficial Effects of Akkermansia muciniphila Are Not Associated with Major Changes in the Circulating Endocannabinoidome but Linked to Higher Mono-Palmitoyl-Glycerol Levels as New PPARα Agonists

Clara Depommier et al.

Summary: A. muciniphila is considered as a beneficial bacterium for obesity and metabolic disorders, and this study suggests that its effects may be mediated through modulation of certain endocannabinoid-related lipids. Specifically, the bacterium counteracted the decrease in 1-PG and 2-PG observed in overweight or obese individuals, which are endogenous activators of PPAR alpha, potentially explaining some of the beneficial metabolic effects induced by A. muciniphila in human metabolic syndrome.

Multiple Selection Criteria for Probiotic Strains with High Potential for Obesity Management

Jeanne Alard et al.

Summary: This study identified potential probiotics that can be used for the management of obesity through both in vitro and in vivo approaches. Selected probiotic strains showed positive effects in limiting body weight gain and improving obesity-related metabolic dysfunction and inflammation in a murine model of diet-induced obesity. These protective effects were associated with changes in hypothalamic gene expression, gut microbiota composition, and bile acid profile.
