Incidence of Second Primary Melanoma in Cutaneous Melanoma Survivors

Alyssa A. Wiener et al.

Summary: This study utilized the SEER database to determine the 5- and 10-year incidences of second primary cutaneous melanomas in survivors of cutaneous melanoma. The results showed that older age, male sex, and regional disease were associated with an increased risk of a second primary melanoma diagnosis.

Types of second primary cancer influence overall survival in cutaneous melanoma

Guoqiao Zheng et al.

Summary: Favorable survival in malignant cutaneous melanoma has led to an increase in the likelihood of developing second primary cancer. A significant proportion of patients developed other SPCs, with higher survival rates observed for women compared to men. Time-dependent analysis showed increased hazard ratios for fatal cancer types, but SPC-specific hazard ratios remained uniform regardless of when the SPC was diagnosed. Additional efforts are needed to improve survival rates for patients with various types of SPCs.
