Incidence and mortality trends in gastric cancer in the United States, 1992-2019

Summary: Our study aimed to estimate the epidemiological trends of gastric cancer in the United States from 1992 to 2019. We found that the incidence and mortality rates of gastric cancer have declined in the past decades, but the proportion of distant gastric cancer cases has unexpectedly increased. The progression of primary and tertiary preventive measures is the main reason for the reduction in the disease burden of gastric cancer. However, secondary preventive measures for gastric cancer still need to be strengthened.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of hepatic steatosis in ICI therapy for gastric cancer. The results showed a significant association between hepatic steatosis and fatty liver and inflammatory markers, as well as a significant correlation with the prognosis indicators DSS and PFS. The study suggests that hepatic steatosis may be a reliable biomarker for ICI therapy in gastric cancer.

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio before each chemotherapy line predicts clinical outcomes in patients with unresectable gastric cancer

Summary: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a prognostic biomarker for patients with gastric cancer. This study evaluated the clinical impact of NLR in patients with gastric cancer treated with different chemotherapies. The results showed that patients with NLR > 3.00 had worse overall survival at each treatment stage, and NLR could predict treatment outcomes in patients with unresectable gastric cancer, including those treated with nivolumab.

Novel prognostic indicator combining inflammatory indicators and tumor markers for gastric cancer

Summary: This study found that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and CA19-9 were independent prognostic factors for gastric cancer patients. The NLR-CA19-9 score (NCS), which is a combination of the two factors, can provide more accurate predictions of the prognosis of gastric cancer patients, and its predictive value is significantly better than that of traditional inflammatory indicators or tumor markers.
