The role of cardiac surgeon in transvenous lead extraction: Experience from 3462 procedures

Lukasz Tulecki et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role and treatment outcomes of cardiac surgeons in TLE procedures. The results showed that emergency cardiac surgery was still the primary option for managing severe hemorrhagic complications, while other roles included assisting partially successful TLE procedures and tricuspid valve repair.

Transvenous Lead Extraction in Patients with Cardiac Implantable Device: The Impact of Systemic and Local Infection on Clinical Outcomes-An ESC-EHRA ELECTRa (European Lead Extraction Controlled) Registry Substudy

Igor Diemberger et al.

Summary: According to the analysis of patients with infection of implantable pacemakers/defibrillators, about one-third of the cases showed systemic infection, which is associated with increased complications and mortality during hospitalization. Patients with systemic infection have different characteristics compared to those with local infection, suggesting that some infections may be systemic from the beginning. These findings have important implications for further research and treatment.

Disparities in transvenous lead extraction in young adults

Andrzej Kutarski et al.

Summary: This study assessed the safety and effectiveness of transvenous lead extraction (TLE) in young adults with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). The results showed that young adults had longer implant duration and more severe lead adhesion, leading to higher procedure complexity and complications. Hemopericardium and tricuspid valve damage were more common in young adults compared to middle-aged and older adults.

Long-term survival following transvenous lead extraction: Importance of indication and comorbidities

Vishal S. Mehta et al.

Summary: This study found that long-term outcomes for patients undergoing TLE are poor, with factors such as age, estimated glomerular filtration rate, cumulative comorbidity, left ventricular ejection fraction influencing survival rates depending on whether there was an infective indication.

Predictors of lead break during transvenous lead extraction

Junji Morita et al.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence, predictors, and clinical impact of lead break during transvenous lead extraction. Results showed that high lead age, coradial bipolar leads, passive leads, and leads without polyurethane insulation were predictors of lead break, leading to longer procedure times and higher rates of cardiac tamponade.
