Predictability of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio in preoperative elderly hip fracture patients for post-operative short-term complications: a retrospective study

Mohammad Golsorkhtabaramiri et al.

Summary: Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the predictability of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) for early adverse outcomes after surgery for hip fracture in elderly patients. The results showed that although NLR was associated with post-operative complications, its predictive ability was low.

Elevated urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio increases the risk of new-onset heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes

Jie Tao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) and new-onset heart failure (HF) in type 2 diabetes patients. The results showed that increasing uACR, even within the normal range, is an independent risk factor for new-onset HF in type 2 diabetic population, and incorporating uACR into existing HF risk models can improve prediction accuracy.

Effect of Mailed Fecal Immunochemical Test Outreach for Patients Newly Eligible for Colorectal Cancer Screening

Shohei Burns et al.

Summary: Limited data exists on the effectiveness of organized outreach campaigns on CRC screening completion for newly eligible patients. Through analysis of clinical trial data, it was found that newly eligible patients were more likely to complete the screening test compared to older patients who had not completed it yet.

A low BUN/creatinine ratio predicts histologically confirmed acute interstitial nephritis

Lopez Giacoman Salvador et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify clinical and biochemical variables associated with acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (AIN) in patients with acute renal injury (AKI). The results showed that a BCR <= 12 can be used to differentiate AIN patients. This study is the first to prospectively assess the relationship between renal biopsy results and BCR.

D-dimer to lymphocyte ratio can serve as a potential predictive and prognostic value in colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases

Shaolong Lu et al.

Summary: The research investigated the capacity of D-dimer to lymphocyte ratio (DLR) in forecasting the risk and prognosis of colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRCLM). The results showed that DLR could serve as a predictor for the development of CRCLM.

Serum CCL7 Is a Novel Prognostic Biomarker of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Hikari Chidimatsu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prognostic performance of pre-treatment serum C-C motif chemokine ligand 7 (CCL7) concentration in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The results showed that patients with high serum CCL7 concentration and stromal expression had poorer prognosis. Serum CCL7 concentration was a significant prognostic factor for mCRC. The combination of pre-treatment serum CCL7 and CEA levels could serve as useful prognostic biomarkers for mCRC.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and biomarkers: A new paradigm in colorectal cancer

Gowhar Rashid et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is caused by mutations in large intestinal epithelial cells and can be detected early through biomarkers such as KRAS and ctDNA/cfDNA. While colonoscopy is the most common invasive method for diagnosing CRC, non-invasive techniques like molecular analysis of breath, urine, blood, and stool can also be used for early detection. NSAIDs have been found to have a chemopreventive impact on CRC by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes and causing apoptosis in CRC cells. This review paper explores the diversity of biomarkers and detection techniques for CRC, as well as the role of NSAIDs in chemoprevention.

Trends of colorectal cancer screening methods: an analysis of Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data from 2018-2020

Gregory Balcerak et al.

Summary: By evaluating trends in different CRC screening methods and analyzing sex and race, this study aimed to improve screening for colorectal cancer. The study found that trends in CRC screening were similar for Whites and Blacks, but deviated for Asians, AI/AN, Hispanics, and those with unidentified race.

What Is Currently Known about the Role of CXCL10 in SARS-CoV-2 Infection?

Monika Gudowska-Sawczuk et al.

Summary: Dysregulation of the immune response is crucial in the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infection. CXCL10, a chemokine, has been suggested to be associated with inflammatory diseases and may play a role in the development of COVID-19. Elevated levels of CXCL10 have been found in COVID-19 patients and are associated with disease severity and progression.

The Significance of Selected C-C Motif Chemokine Ligands in Colorectal Cancer Patients

Monika Zajkowska et al.

Summary: This study assessed the usefulness of selected CC chemokines in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. The concentrations of these chemokines were found to be higher in CRC patients compared to healthy individuals. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of the chemokines were higher than that of the classical tumor marker CA 19-9.

Chemokine Homeostasis in Healthy Volunteers and during Pancreatic and Colorectal Tumor Growth in Murine Models

Elena Svirshchevskaya et al.

Summary: Chemokines play a role in regulating body homeostasis and their blood levels can be altered in cancer and other systemic diseases. However, tumors do not significantly affect blood chemokine levels until the late stages. Therefore, caution should be exercised when considering chemokines as prognostic parameters or therapeutic targets in cancer.

Eotaxins and Their Receptor as Biomarkers of Colorectal Cancer

Monika Zajkowska et al.

Summary: In patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), concentrations of CCR3 were significantly higher than in the healthy control group, and CCR3 showed higher diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value, and area under the ROC curve (AUC) compared to CA 19-9. The combination of CCR3 and CRP obtained the maximum values for sensitivity, negative predictive value, and AUC. Our findings suggest the potential usefulness of CCR3 in the diagnosis of CRC, especially in combination with CRP or CEA.
