Sick day management in people with chronic kidney disease: a scoping review

Henna Duong et al.

Summary: The aim of this scoping review is to collate and characterise existing evidence on sick day management considerations and practices during acute illness in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study found limited evidence on the impact of sick day protocols on outcomes and suggested the need for future research to clarify sick day recommendations and assess their impact on clinical outcomes, as well as address implementation barriers.

Sick Day Medication Guidance for People With Diabetes, Kidney Disease, or Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Scoping Review

Kaitlyn E. Watson et al.

Summary: This study summarized the existing sick day medication guidance and the evidence base for interventions implementing this guidance. Most of the identified documents were guidelines or educational resources, with few studies examining the effectiveness of sick day medication guidance interventions in clinical care. Further research is needed to develop consistent and effective approaches for implementing sick day medication guidance and to demonstrate their impact on clinical outcomes.

The effect of different consensus definitions on diagnosing acute kidney injury events and their association with in-hospital mortality

Fateme Nateghi Haredasht et al.

Summary: The study found that KDIGO-4 is more sensitive in detecting AKI events, and in predicting mortality in AKI patients, random forest and logistic regression models performed almost equally.

A case-control study of patients with type 2 diabetes admitted with acute infection

Philip Andreas Schytz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the association between metformin and acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with type 2 diabetes hospitalized with acute infection, finding no independent association between metformin and AKI. Other antidiabetics were also significantly associated with AKI, suggesting potential confounding by indication.

The Incidence, Characteristics, and Use of Suspected Nephrotoxic Drugs in Elderly Patients with Community-Acquired Acute Kidney Injury

Wenxue Hu et al.

Summary: The study found a high incidence of CA-AKI in the elderly population, with more complex chronic comorbidities and poor clinical outcomes. The use of most suspected nephrotoxic drugs increased after CA-AKI and was associated with worse prognosis.

Acute kidney injury

John A. Kellum et al.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) describes a sudden loss of kidney function which can lead to long term damage. AKI and AKD are global issues with different causes and management strategies in various regions. Prevention and early detection of AKI are crucial for better outcomes.
