Hindfoot Flexibility Influences the Biomechanical Effects of Laterally Wedged Insoles and Ankle-Foot Orthoses in Medial Knee Osteoarthritis

Leonie P. Bartsch et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between frontal plane ankle mobility and the effects of an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) and a laterally wedged insole (LWI) on knee adduction moment (KAM) in the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis. The results suggested that LWI may be suitable for patients with limited to normal frontal plane ankle mobility, while patients with greater frontal plane ankle mobility benefit most from AFO. Further studies with larger samples are needed.

Are there different gait profiles in patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis? A machine learning approach

Gustavo Leporace et al.

Summary: Using machine learning algorithms to analyze knee kinematics features, researchers were able to identify four distinct gait profiles in patients with knee OA, providing valuable information for clinical decisions and surgical planning. Further studies with larger and more diverse populations are needed for generalization.
