Hyaluronic Acid as a Modern Approach in Anticancer Therapy-Review

Monika Michalczyk et al.

Summary: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an important component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and is involved in various biological functions, including embryonic development, healing, inflammation, and cancerogenesis. This review highlights the metabolism and interactions of HA with its binding proteins, such as CD44 and RHAMM, and their implications in cancer development. The presence of HA on tumor cells is associated with a poor prognosis, and studying HA in cancer-free naked mole rats provides insights into its role in malignancy.

Neurodynamics: is tension contentious?

Richard Ellis et al.

Summary: This article provides a balanced evidence-informed view on the effects of optimal tensile loading on peripheral nerves and the use of tensioning techniques. While beneficial effects include neuronal cell differentiation, nerve regeneration and remyelination, there are negative effects such as excessive tensile forces aggravating clinical symptoms in patients. The nervous system is both robust and delicate, and the use of tensioning techniques should be carefully considered to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Mechanism underlying painful radiculopathy in patients with lumbar disc herniation

Gil Samuelly-Leichtag et al.

Summary: This exploratory study suggests that pain catastrophizing, conditioned pain modulation (CPM) and gender play a role in determining pain intensity in patients with painful lumbar radiculopathy. Objective measures of inflammation and imaging do not correlate with pain intensity in these patients.

A Review of the Clinical Effectiveness and Safety of Hybrid Cooperative Complexes in Intra-articular Viscosupplementation

Marcin Domzalski et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the clinical efficacy of hybrid cooperative complexes of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA-HL) and hyaluronic acid plus sodium chondroitin (HA-SC) in the treatment of degenerative joint diseases. These innovative viscosupplementation therapies improve symptoms and function of joint diseases, closely mimicking the physiological composition of synovial fluid.

Effectiveness of combined extracorporeal shock-wave therapy and hyaluronic acid injections for patients with shoulder pain due to rotator cuff tendinopathy: a person-centered approach with a focus on gender differences to treatment response

Raffaello Pellegrino et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the response to two different therapeutic approaches, ESWT plus hyaluronic acid injections (E+Hy) compared to ESWT alone (ESWT-al), in patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy. The results suggest that the combination of ESWT plus hyaluronic acid injections may be more effective than ESWT alone in treating rotator cuff tendinopathy in both genders. Furthermore, in ESWT alone treatment, male patients reported better outcomes compared to females.

Effect of hyaluronic acid on cytokines and immune cells change in patients of knee osteoarthritis

Lixia Jin et al.

Summary: The synovial fluid of KOA patients is mainly composed of macrophages (69%) and lymphocytes (18%), and cytokines like IL-6 and IL-8 are common in the synovial fluid. The cytokines decrease significantly after the first injection and then stabilize, while lymphocytes increase and macrophages decrease in the early stage but increase after multiple injections. M1 and M2 cells are positively associated with IL-6 and IL-8.

The Impact of Hyaluronic Acid on Tendon Physiology and Its Clinical Application in Tendinopathies

Francesco Oliva et al.

Summary: The physical-chemical, structural, hydrodynamic, and biological properties of hyaluronic acid within tendons are still poorly investigated, but clinical applications show potential therapeutic benefits. The physical-chemical properties of hyaluronic acid play a key role in tendon healing. In clinical studies, hyaluronic acid has been used in various tendon pathologies with promising results.

Intra-articular hyaluronic acid in knee osteoarthritis: clinical data for a product family (ARTHRUM), with comparative meta-analyses

Patrice Vincent

Summary: Viscosupplementation with hyaluronic acid (HA) injections is widely used to reduce pain in osteoarthritis (OA). A comparative review of ARTHERUM devices and other equivalent IA HA devices showed that ARTHERUM was as effective if not better in reducing pain and improving function over a six-month period. The risk benefit ratio favored the use of viscosupplementation with ARTHERUM due to good tolerance and efficacy results.
