Differences in high trunk acceleration during single-leg landing after an overhead stroke between junior and adolescent badminton athletes

Shogo Sasaki et al.

Summary: The study found that in badminton games, adolescent athletes had a higher frequency of high trunk accelerations during single-leg landings after an overhead stroke compared to junior athletes. Additionally, adolescent athletes exhibited greater mediolateral acceleration in the movement towards racket-hand leg and anteroposterior acceleration in the movement towards the opposite leg than junior athletes.

Muscle Force Contributions to Anterior Cruciate Ligament Loading

Nirav Maniar et al.

Summary: This review investigated the relationship between muscle force and ACL loading, revealing that the quadriceps and gastrocnemius increase ACL load, while the hamstrings, soleus, and gluteus medius unload the ACL. Limited evidence was found for other muscle groups. Interventions aiming to reduce ACL injury risk should focus on the function of the hamstrings, soleus, and gluteus medius.

Correlation of Lower Limb Muscle Activity with Knee Joint Kinematics and Kinetics during Badminton Landing Tasks

Zhe Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between knee muscle activity and knee kinematics and kinetics in badminton players during a single-leg landing task. The results suggest that there is a correlation between knee biomechanical indicators and muscle activity. Therefore, lower extremity muscle activity should be considered in rehabilitation and injury prevention programs.

Individual differences in the distribution of activation among the hamstring muscle heads during stiff-leg Deadlift and Nordic hamstring exercises

Aurelie Boyer et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the distribution of muscle activation among the semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and biceps femoris during different exercises. Individual variations in the most active muscle were observed, with stiff-leg Deadlift favoring semimembranosus and Nordic hamstring exercise favoring semitendinosus. The contribution of biceps femoris activation varied between individuals and was correlated between the two exercises.

Relationship between lower limb EMG activity and knee frontal plane projection angle during a single-legged drop jump

Luis Llurda-Almuzara et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the relationship between lower limb muscle activity and knee kinematics during a single-legged drop jump. Results showed significant correlations between gluteal and hamstring muscle activity and knee frontal plane projection angle, indicating the importance of considering these muscles in rehabilitation or injury prevention programs.

Risk Factors for Contra-Lateral Secondary Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis

Anna Cronstrom et al.

Summary: Intrinsic risk factors such as high activity level, BMI < 25, age <= 18 years, family history of ACL injury, early reconstruction, female sex, and concomitant meniscal injury were found to increase the odds of sustaining a C-ACL injury. Conversely, decreased intercondylar notch width/femur width ratio and concomitant cartilage injury were associated with decreased odds of subsequent C-ACL injury.

Mechanism of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Loading during Dynamic Motor Tasks

A. Z. A. D. E. H. NASSERI et al.

Summary: This study used a validated computational model to determine ACL force and its contributors during a standardized dynamic task, finding that ACL loading is primarily generated through muscle during movements, with the gastrocnemius playing an important role in ACL loading.

The Effects of Gluteal Strength and Activation on the Relationship Between Femoral Alignment and Functional Valgus Collapse During a Single-Leg Landing

Jennifer A. Hogg et al.

Summary: The study revealed that in females, lower gluteal strength and higher muscle activation were marginally associated with valgus movement after considering femoral alignment. In males, lower gluteal strength was linked to a more varus posture. However, gluteal strength did not mediate femoral alignment as previously hypothesized.

Summary: This study investigated the role of the gastrocnemius in anterior tibial translation using ultrasound imaging, finding that activation of the gastrocnemius resulted in anterior movement of the tibia, supporting its role as an antagonist of the ACL.
