The need for secondary orthognathic surgery after high condylectomy in patients with active unilateral condylar hyperplasia

T. Aerden et al.

Summary: The need for secondary orthognathic surgery (OS) after high condylectomy (HC) in patients with active unilateral condylar hyperplasia was evaluated. It was found that 52% of patients required secondary OS after HC. The amount of mandibular dental midline shift and the presence of a dental crossbite before the HC were significantly associated with the need for secondary OS. Most patients showed good results with HC, with only a small percentage requiring supplementary OS.

Short-term and long-term psychological impact and quality of life of patients undergoing orthognathic surgery

Cheng-Hui Lin et al.

Summary: Orthognathic Surgery (OGS) has a positive impact on the psychological well-being and quality of life of patients with dentofacial deformity, reducing appearance distress and improving daily functioning. However, post-surgery sleep problems and role limitations due to physical health should be monitored and managed in the long term.

TMJ Position in Symmetric Dentofacial Deformity

Victor Ravelo et al.

Summary: This research aimed to analyze the relationship between facial class, malocclusion, mandibular plane, and mandibular condyle position. The study found that subjects in the CII group had a higher mandibular angle and more anterior position of the condyle, while subjects in the CIII group had a lower mandibular angle and more posterior position of the condyle.
