A nearsighted force-training approach to systematically generate training data for the machine learning of large atomic structures

Cheng Zeng et al.

Summary: This work presents a framework that uses the nearsightedness principle of machine learning models to generate suitable training sets for large structures. The approach has been demonstrated to be effective through experiments.

Electrochemistry from the atomic scale, in the electronically grand-canonical ensemble

Per Lindgren et al.

Summary: In this article, the atomistic interpretation of electrochemistry at three scales is discussed, emphasizing the importance of the grand-canonical nature of the process. The meaning of potential at the atomic scale and its link to the chemical potential are examined, and the connection between charge transfer and potential in various situations is discussed.

Multicapacitor Approach to Interfacial Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer Thermodynamics at Constant Potential

Phillips Hutchison et al.

Summary: Theoretical calculations of interfacial thermodynamics at constant potential enhance understanding of a key elementary step in a wide range of electrocatalytic processes. A strategy is devised for computing reaction thermodynamics for electrochemical proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) by transforming Gibbs free energies to grand potentials. The strategy is applied to graphite-conjugated catalysts, showing that the energetic contribution of the adsorbate capacitor is essential for computing proton-coupled redox potentials at constant potential.
