Deciphering perovskite decomposition in a humid atmosphere with TOF-GISANS

Adam N. Urwick et al.

Summary: Doping or alloying of cations and halides in perovskite materials can improve their moisture stability, but they still undergo degradation induced by moisture. This study used TOF-GISANS to uncover degradation pathways and found evidence of PbI2 and PbBr2 formation, with less degradation observed in films containing Cs. Deuterated by-products readily formed, causing expansion and fragmentation of perovskite crystals. TOF-GISANS was demonstrated as a powerful tool for characterizing these materials.

Halide Segregation in Mixed-Halide Perovskites: Influence of A-Site Cations

Alexander J. Knight et al.

Summary: Mixed-halide perovskite films of MAPb(Br0.5I0.5)(3) and FA(0.83)Cs(0.17)Pb(Br0.4I0.6)(3) exhibit clear differences in compositional and optoelectronic changes associated with halide segregation. MAPb(Br0.5I0.5)(3) shows low-barrier ionic pathways that enhance stability against halide segregation, while FA(0.83)Cs(0.17)Pb(Br0.4I0.6)(3) lacks such pathways and undergoes considerable ionic rearrangement under prolonged illumination.

Identifying high-performance and durable methylammonium-free lead halide perovskites via high-throughput synthesis and characterization

Yu An et al.

Summary: This study investigates the crystallographic and optical properties of mixed cation and mixed halide lead perovskites, revealing a correlation between tolerance factor and structure but also showing that tolerance factor alone cannot predict complete perovskite formation. Among 26 different compositions, Cs(1/6)FA(5/6)PbI(3) demonstrates the highest efficiency and long-term stability in iodide-rich compositions, highlighting the importance of understanding structure-property relationships in designing durable perovskite materials.
