Effects of Lactobacillus casei NCU011054 on immune response and gut microbiota of cyclophosphamide induced immunosuppression mice

Fangfang Min et al.

Summary: L. casei NCU011054 was found to improve intestinal immune dysfunction and modulate Th1/Th2 balance via the TLRs/NF-kappa B pathway in cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppressed mice. It increased the levels of mucin and tight junction proteins, upregulated TLRs/NF-kappa B pathway and two transcription factors, and enhanced CD4+T cell numbers. It also increased Th1- and Th2-related cytokines and remodeled gut microbiota and gut metabolites.

Effects of tea polysaccharides in combination with polyphenols on dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis in mice

Chunhua Chen et al.

Summary: Both tea polysaccharides (TPS) and tea polyphenols (TPP) show promise in treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and their combination has even better therapeutic effects. The study found that the combination of TPS and TPP alleviated colitis symptoms and promoted intestinal barrier function.

Lactobacillus plantarum KLDS1.0344 and Lactobacillus acidophilus KLDS1.0901 Mixture Prevents Chronic Alcoholic Liver Injury in Mice by Protecting the Intestinal Barrier and Regulating Gut Microbiota and Liver-Related Pathways

Huizhen Li et al.

Summary: The Lactobacillus mixture improved intestinal permeability, reduced serum levels of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), and inhibited liver lipid accumulation, oxidative stress, and inflammation by regulating key pathways. Additionally, the Lactobacillus mixture modulated the gut microbiota, increasing SCFA producers and decreasing Gram-negative bacteria, thereby protecting the liver from alcohol-induced damage.

Intestinal Barrier in Human Health and Disease

Natalia Di Tommaso et al.

Summary: The intestinal mucosa acts as a protective barrier for nutrient absorption, consisting of epithelial cells, immune cells, and gut microbiota. Disruption of this barrier by pathogens, xenobiotics, or food can lead to systemic inflammation and tissue damage. Genetic, immune factors, and changes in gut microbiota composition are key factors in gut barrier dysfunction, underlying metabolic diseases and autoimmunity.
