Clinical manifestation and long-term outcome of citrin deficiency: Report from a nationwide study in Japan

Jun Kido et al.

Summary: This study investigates the clinical manifestations, medical therapy, and long-term outcome in 222 Japanese patients with citrin deficiency. The results show that patients with citrin deficiency have an increased risk for low weight and length at birth, and citrullinemia patients have an increased risk for growth impairment during adolescence. Liver transplantation has shown positive outcomes in a small number of patients.

Molecular epidemiologic study of citrin deficiency by screening for four reported pathogenic SLC25A13 variants in the Shaanxi and Guangdong provinces, China

Wei-Xia Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular epidemiological features of citrin deficiency (CD) in Guangdong and Shaanxi provinces of China. The results showed that Guangdong exhibited a higher frequency of mutated SLC25A13 alleles compared to Shaanxi, with a higher c.852_855del allele frequency but a lower c.1751-5_1751-4ins(2684) frequency. The study provides important laboratory evidence for CD diagnosis and management in these two provinces.

In-house multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification assay for citrin deficiency: analytical validation and novel exonic deletions in SLC25A13

Nike Kwai Cheung Lau et al.

Summary: This study developed a MLPA assay to detect exonic copy number variations in the SLC25A13 gene, successfully identifying new exonic deletions in patients with citrin deficiency. This method provides a new approach for molecular diagnosis of citrin deficiency in patients with inconclusive sequencing results.

Neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency with no hepatic steatosis: a case report

Ryosuke Miyamoto et al.

Summary: A 3-month-old female infant was diagnosed with NICCD due to an SLC25A13 gene mutation, despite the absence of fatty deposits on liver pathology. After treatment, the infant regained weight and had improved stool color, with adequate weight gain and lower total bilirubin concentration upon discharge.
