The Congenital and Acquired Mechanisms Implicated in the Etiology of Central Precocious Puberty

Vinicius N. Brito et al.

Summary: The etiology of central precocious puberty (CPP) is diverse, including congenital and acquired causes, with associations to structural and functional brain alterations. All causes of CPP lead to premature secretion of hypothalamic GnRH, resulting in premature reactivation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Excitatory factors and inhibitory factors play important roles in the mechanisms of CPP, which are delicately balanced. Hypothalamic hamartoma is the most well-known congenital cause of CPP, and genetic and epigenetic factors have been found to be influential in the etiology of CPP.

Prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and related morbidities in overweight and obese children

Ismail Dundar et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and other comorbidities in overweight and obese children in Malatya, Turkey. The study found that puberty and obesity are important risk factors for metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and insulin resistance.

Integrated analysis of proteomics and metabolomics in girls with central precocious puberty

Mei Li et al.

Summary: Our study is the first to integrate proteomics and metabolomics to analyze the serum of girls with CPP and we found some key differential proteins and metabolites as well as a potential biomarker for this condition. Lipid metabolism pathways are involved and these may provide a key direction to further explore the molecular mechanisms and pathogenesis of CPP.

Exposure to antibiotics and precocious puberty in children: A school-based cross-sectional study in China

Yabin Hu et al.

Summary: Foods and water in China may be contaminated with antibiotics, potentially affecting children's health. This study found an association between antibiotic exposure and precocious puberty, especially with fluoroquinolones and tetracyclines.
