Recent progress in the development of glass and glass-ceramic cathode/solid electrolyte materials for next-generation high capacity all-solid-state sodium-ion batteries: A review

Suman Gandi et al.

Summary: As the dominant technology in the rechargeable energy storage market for over two decades, lithium-ion batteries face an emerging demand for alternative battery technologies due to the increasing need for electric vehicles, stationary electricity storage, and portable electronics. One promising candidate for the next generation of batteries is the all-solid-state sodium-ion battery, which offers high power density, good safety, and cycle durability. Recent developments in glass and glass-ceramic cathode/solid electrolytes show specific interest in enhancing the structure optimization of all-solid-state sodium-ion batteries for fast Na+ ion diffusion, high cycle performance, excellent thermal stability, and high electronic and ionic conductivity.

Towards the High Phase Purity of Nanostructured Alluaudite-Type Glass-Ceramics Cathode Materials for Sodium Ion Batteries

Maciej Nowagiel et al.

Summary: Alluaudite-type materials are increasingly considered as potential cathode materials for sodium ion batteries. This study optimized synthesis parameters to obtain nanostructured alluaudite-type glass-ceramics with high phase purity, while investigating the effects of various factors on product quality. The nanomaterials showed significantly increased conductivity, with the highest value reached for the VFF composition.
