Numerical and experimental investigation on distribution of residual stress and the influence of heat treatment in multi-pass dissimilar welded rotor joint of alloy 617/10Cr steel

Rajiv Kumar et al.

Summary: The research investigated the stress distribution pattern in thick-walled nuclear rotor pipe joints of Alloy 617 and 10Cr steel using numerical and experimental methods. HW-TIG welding process was used for its better mechanical properties and reduced residual stress accumulation. The study found that shrinkage in the heat-affected zone affects stress distribution at the outer surface, mainly driven by bending effects during welding. Additionally, post weld heat treatment was able to release nearly 80% of residual stresses generated in the weld section.

SCFs in tubular X-connections retrofitted with FRP under in-plane bending load

Hossein Nassiraei et al.

Summary: This study investigates stress concentration factors in tubular X-connections retrofitted with FRP under in-plane bending moment. Results show that increasing the number and elastic modulus of FRP sheets significantly reduces the SCFs, and using CFRP for reinforcement in X-connections can decrease the SCF to 37% of the un-retrofitted situation.

The Performance of CR180IF and DP600 Laser Welded Steel Sheets under Different Strain Rates

Maria Mihalikova et al.

Summary: The research focused on the static and dynamic behavior of car body components welded from dissimilar steel sheets, investigating the influence of laser welding on mechanical and dynamical properties. Results showed that the strain rate had an impact on the mechanical properties of base materials and welded joints, with dynamic loading increasing yield stress more than ultimate tensile strength.

Investigation of residual stresses in planar dissimilar magnetic pulse welds by neutron diffraction

M-N Avettand-Fenoel et al.

Summary: Residual stresses in a dissimilar AA1050-DP450 steel magnetic pulse weld were investigated using neutron diffraction for the first time. Tensile residual stresses were observed in the Al sheet and compressive residual stresses in the steel sheet, with different distributions at the joint interface. The asymmetrical shape of the rectangular joint line resulted in lower magnitude of residual stresses along the short side of the weld.
