Influence of Anodizing Conditions on Biotribological and Micromechanical Properties of Ti-13Zr-13Nb Alloy

Agnieszka Stroz et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the effect of anodizing conditions on the micromechanical and biotribological properties of Ti-13Zr-13Nb alloy. Anodizing was performed to produce first-generation (1G), second-generation (2G), and third-generation (3G) porous oxide nanotubes' (ONTs) layers on the alloy surface. The microstructure was characterized using SEM and micromechanical properties were tested by the Vickers microhardness test. Biotribological properties were examined using a ball-on-flat system in Ringer's solution. The composition of the electrolyte with fluoride ions was found to be crucial in determining the properties of the ONT layers.

In Vitro Bioelectrochemical Properties of Second-Generation Oxide Nanotubes on Ti-13Zr-13Nb Biomedical Alloy

Agnieszka Stroz et al.

Summary: Surface charge and in vitro corrosion resistance are important parameters for biomaterials in the interaction with the biological environment. This study analyzed the in vitro bioelectrochemical behavior of second-generation oxide nanotubes (ONTs) on a Ti-13Zr-13Nb alloy. The ONTs were produced by anodization and their properties were characterized using microscopy and spectroscopy techniques. The results showed that electrolyte type and strength influenced the bioelectrochemical properties of the ONTs layers.

Summary: This study developed a method of electrochemical modification of the Ti-13Zr-13Nb alloy surface to obtain third-generation oxide nanotubes (ONTs). The experiment showed that anodizing within a specific voltage range resulted in ONTs with high quality and certain thickness, and these layers had little influence from neutral salt spray.

Effect of double thermal and electrochemical oxidation on titanium alloys for medical applications

Agnieszka Ossowska et al.

Summary: The research focused on the development and characterization of innovative thin hybrid oxide coatings obtained through thermal and electrochemical oxidation processes. Different surface modifications were investigated to improve the mechanical, chemical, and biological properties of Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy. The study showed that the double titanium oxide coatings produced had high surface roughness, corrosion resistance, hydrophilicity, slight antibacterial properties, and were not cytotoxic, which have significant implications for tissue-implant integration.

Influence of Sandblasting Process on Tribological Properties of Titanium Grade 4 in Artificial Saliva for Dentistry Applications

Patrycja Osak et al.

Summary: This study examined the tribological wear of Titanium Grade 4 dental implants in artificial saliva, and the effect of sandblasting on their properties. Sandblasting was found to increase residual stress and surface hardening of the implants, alter surface wettability, reduce tribological wear, and lower the friction coefficient. The study proposed a three-body abrasion wear mechanism to explain the wear behavior of Titanium Grade 4 in saliva.

Production, Characterization and Application of Oxide Nanotubes on Ti-6Al-7Nb Alloy as a Potential Drug Carrier

Bozena Losiewicz et al.

Summary: This work developed a method to functionalize the surface of the biomedical Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy by producing oxide nanotubes (ONTs) with drug-eluting properties. The morphology, microstructure, and thickness of the ONTs were shaped by anodization in an aqueous solution, with characterization performed using SEM, XPS, and EDAX methods. The ONTs, mainly composed of TiO2, Al2O3, and Nb2O5, could potentially serve as drug carriers in modern implantology for local drug delivery in inflammatory conditions.

Krzysztof Aniolek et al.

Summary: This study focused on the isothermal oxidation of Ti-6Al-7Nb biomedical alloy to improve its mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and bioactivity. The research found that increasing oxidation temperature led to thicker oxide layers, higher surface roughness, hardness, corrosion resistance, and contact potential difference. Moreover, the oxidized alloy exhibited the ability to form HAp in a biological environment.
