Bandgap engineering of NiO, and enhanced photocatalytic performance by Ca doping

Muhammad Ahsan Shafique et al.

Summary: In this study, calcium doping was used to incorporate CaO molecules into the NiO matrix, resulting in improved photocatalytic performance. Calcium doping shifted the absorbance peaks towards longer wavelengths and decreased the bandgap of NiO samples, creating more active sites. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of Ca-doped NiO was attributed to the formation of new energy levels and increased active sites. The photodegradation efficiency was improved from 45% to 98.15% by calcium doping in nickel oxide.
