Physical, optical and spectroscopic characteristics investigation for doped Dy3+borate glass matrix

Hammam Abdurabu Thabit et al.

Summary: A series of alkaline earth and tellurium bearing borate-based glasses loaded with Dy2O3 were prepared and their physical, optical, and photoluminescence properties were analyzed. The addition of Dy2O3 improved the density and molar volume factors due to its higher molar mass and larger atomic size compared to SrO. The optical bandgap values decreased with increasing Dy3+ ion concentration, and the photoluminescence properties were influenced by the asymmetry sites of Dy3+ ions in the glasses. The SBTZBD5 glass showed the highest radiative features for the hypersensitive transition and is suitable for solid-state lighting and laser functionalities.

Effect of PbO on the elastic and radiation shielding properties of B2O3-Bi2O3-Al2O3-CuO glasses

A. A. Showahy et al.

Summary: Investigations have been conducted on quinary B2O3-Bi2O3-Al2O3-CuO-PbO glasses, exploring the variations in density and ultrasonic velocities and their correlation with structural modifications characterized by FTIR spectra. The results show that PbO is possibly implanted into the glass network, while Bi2O3 and Al2O3 affect the network in different ways. The addition of PbO leads to changes in structure and elastic moduli, and the prepared samples with higher PbO content have higher mass attenuation coefficient and electron density, but lower half-value layer and mean free path.
