A polymeric suspension of amine functionalized silica nanoparticles derived from Moonj grass for the carbon capture and storage applications

Niharika Pandey et al.

Summary: In this study, amine functionalization of silica nanoparticles derived from a sustainable source was employed to enhance CO2 capture efficiency. The resulting amine-functionalized SNPs were incorporated into a polymeric solution to form a stable nano-fluid with improved CO2 absorption properties. The synergy between polymer and AFSNPs also enhanced the thermal stability of the polymer matrix, suggesting potential applications for effective carbon utilization and storage in subsurface environments.

The development of novel nanofluid for enhanced oil recovery application

Reza Khoramian et al.

Summary: A novel nanofluid has been developed by conjugating an anionic surfactant to graphene oxide nanosheets, which shows improved stability and applicability. The nanofluid has high salinity, alters oil wettability, and reduces interfacial tension, leading to higher oil recovery.

Silica nanofluid in low salinity seawater containing surfactant and polymer: Oil recovery efficiency, wettability alteration and adsorption studies

Uma Sankar Behera et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of a novel silica-based hybrid nanofluid for enhanced oil recovery in matured oil reservoirs. The hybrid nanofluid alters the interfacial properties of the rock-oil-water systems, resulting in a shift from water-wet to strongly water-wet sand surfaces and thereby increasing oil recovery.

Recent advances on the fundamental physical phenomena behind stability, dynamic motion, thermophysical properties, heat transport, applications, and challenges of nanofluids

Zafar Said et al.

Summary: The rapid development of nanotechnology in the past decade has created numerous opportunities for researchers and engineers. Nanofluids, created by suspending nanoparticles in conventional heat transfer carriers, offer significant advantages in thermal properties. This study addresses the challenge of nanofluid stability and analyzes various forces and physical phenomena affecting the stability. Stable and highly conductive nanofluids can be produced through one-step or two-step production methods, but both methods face the problem of nanoparticle agglomeration.

Rheological analysis and EOR potential of surfactant treated single-step silica nanofluid at high temperature and salinity

Krishna Raghav Chaturvedi et al.

Summary: Single-step silica nanofluids were found to destabilize at higher temperatures and in the presence of salt, but showed stability within a pH range of 8-10. The addition of anionic surfactant improved nanofluid stability, although high surfactant concentrations resulted in increased agglomeration. Using surfactant treated single-step silica nanofluids may provide better results for oil recovery applications compared to conventional nanofluids.

Experimental investigations to evaluate surfactant role on absorption capacity of nanofluid for CO2 utilization in sustainable crude mobilization

Krishna Raghav Chaturvedi et al.

Summary: The utilization of CO2 for oilfield applications is affected by viscous fingering, which can be controlled by injecting CO2 with high viscous nanofluid. Adding a surfactant to the nanofluid further improves CO2 absorption and retention capacity. Experiments show that the combination of surfactant and nanofluid can enhance oil recovery and reduce water cut in porous media.

The effect of subsurface factors on the performance of nanofluid-assisted enhanced oil recovery: Modeling and sensitivity analysis

Mehdi Rezaei Abiz et al.

Summary: The deposition tendency of silica nanoparticles is higher on limestone than on sandstone. Increasing clay content increases both surface area and deposition sites, leading to more nanoparticle retention. Increasing brine salinity results in considerable deposition of silica nanoparticles on the rock surface and enhances water wetting, ultimately increasing the final recovery factor.

Enhanced carbon capture and storage in depleted sandstone reservoirs using silica nanofluids

Krishna Raghav Chaturvedi et al.

Summary: The main challenges in widespread carbon capture implementation are the high costs of CO2 purification and storage. This study investigates the absorption potential of synthetic flue gas using silica nanofluids of varying wt%. Results show that the inclusion of silica nanoparticles improves gas absorption, with higher NP wt% being more conducive for absorption. The study also demonstrates that gas solvated water significantly enhances oil recovery and gas storage, directly proportional to the amount of gas solvation.
