Wei Chen et al.

Summary: A 1:7 scaled water model was established to investigate the dispersion of desulphurizer particles during the desulphurization process. It was found that particles were easier to be driven into the liquid by the stirring impeller due to higher particle additions. The use of a baffle increased the area proportion of dispersed particles significantly.

Computational Evaluation of Flow-Induced Abrasion of Blade and Ladle in Kanbara Reactors for Hot Metal Desulfurization

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively assessed the erosion of impeller blades in Kanbara reactors for hot metal desulfurization using a numerical model coupled with an erosion formula. Nonuniform local erosive wear was identified, with high erosion zones concentrated at the lower part of the blade and two rings of the ladle lining. The immersion depth of the impeller negligibly influenced blade abrasion but significantly affected the ladle sidewall and bottom. Quantitative correlations of abrasion rate with blade dimensions and rotation speed were obtained.

The effect of radial impeller geometry on the link between power and flow numbers

Thomas P. John et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates the effect of impeller geometry on the relationship between power and flow in stirred vessels using a combination of angular momentum balance analysis and computational fluid dynamics simulations. The results allow for accurate prediction of the flow generated by the impeller based on easily measurable impeller power consumption and geometrical dimensions. The models are accurate over a wide range of geometries and can predict both primary and total flows.

Effect of impellers on particle mixing behaviour in KR desulphurization process

Junhong Ji et al.

Summary: Three types of impellers have been developed to improve reagent efficiency in the desulfurization process of hot metal using the kanbara reactor stirring method. Among them, the square center impeller significantly enhances flow structure and particle distribution, with the shortest mixing time. Impellers with downward angle blades improve mixing effects in the lower region, with impeller C showing greater sensitivity to changes in rotation speed.

Summary: A three-dimensional mathematical model was established to predict the multiphase flow, motion, and dispersion of desulfurizer particles, and desulfurization of hot metal during the Kanbara reactor (KR) process. The model validation showed that the increase in rotation speed has a significant effect on the dispersion of desulfurizer particles, while the influence of immersion depth is relatively small.

Summary: The study found that the immersion depth (IID) and rotation speed (IRS) of the Kanbara Reactor have different effects on the flow pattern. Increasing IRS significantly increases the mean velocity, while increasing IID causes the discharge flow location to move downward. IRS improvements strengthen recirculation, shorten mixing time, and improve bath hydrodynamics, while IID has a limited impact on these features.
