Natural aging behaviors of Al-Cu-Li alloy: PLC effect, properties and microstructure evolution

C. H. Wu et al.

Summary: This study deepy explored the natural aging behaviors and underlying mechanism of the 2195 Al-Cu-Li alloy. Results indicate that the alloy exhibits a strong response in the early stage of natural aging, with the tensile strength rapidly increasing after 4 hours and reaching a plateau after 24 hours. The contribution of solute atoms, delta'/beta' precipitates, and GP zones to strength in the natural aging state is similar, at around 161 MPa, 80 MPa, and 141 MPa, respectively.

Mechanical properties of 7A04-T6 high strength structural aluminium alloy at elevated temperatures and after cooling down

Zhongxing Wang et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been an increasing use of high strength aluminium alloys in structural applications, however, the mechanical properties of these materials are sensitive to elevated temperatures. This paper presents an experimental study on the mechanical properties of 7A04-T6 high strength aluminium alloy at elevated temperatures and after cooling down. The study found that the Young's modulus and strengths decrease dramatically at temperatures above 200℃, but a large proportion of them regains after cooling down. The post-fire mechanical properties of the material exposed to 400℃ was found to be higher than those exposed to 300℃. Based on the test data, design formulae for the elevated-temperature retention factors and post-fire residual factors were proposed.

Experimental investigation on the damage effect of 6063-T5 aluminum alloy circular tubes subjected to blast after exposure to fire

Tao Jiang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the damage effects of 6063-T5 aluminum alloy circular tubes exposed to natural fire and then subjected to blast loads, analyzing four failure modes. The results showed that increasing fire duration and decreasing stand-off distance or wall thickness intensified the damage degree of the circular tube. Energy ratio and flattening parameter were introduced for quantitative study of deformation and damage characteristics.

The Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect in an Al-Cu aluminum alloy fabricated by selective laser melting

Zhiheng Hu et al.

Summary: An Al-Cu alloy fabricated by selective laser melting was chosen to study the Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effects. The study revealed that heat treatment decreases dislocation density and the decrease in solute atom concentration and dislocation density are responsible for the attenuation of PLC effects. The strong anisotropy in PLC effects observed in the as-built samples is attributed to grain structure and texture.

Multiaxial deformation behavior of aluminum alloy 6061 subjected to fire damage

S. B. Puplampu et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effect of fire damage on aluminum alloy AA6061, finding a 60-70% strength reduction after fire exposure, but the ability to withstand higher maximum tensile loads during combined loading. Fire exposure relieves microstructure while mechanical loading results in strain-induced grain refinement.

An Investigation on the Anisotropic Plastic Behavior and Forming Limits of an Al-Mg-Li Alloy Sheet

Yubao Wang et al.

Summary: Anisotropic properties of the Al-Mg-Li alloy sheet were systematically studied using uniaxial and cruciform biaxial tension tests. The Yld2000-2d yield function provided a better description of the yield locus, and the modified M-K model successfully predicted the forming limits of the sheet. Results showed good agreement with experimental data.
