Joining of SiC using CoFeCrNiCuTi high entropy alloy filler by electric current field assisted sintering

Yihe Liu et al.

Summary: SiC ceramics were successfully brazed at lower temperatures using CoFeCrNiCuTi high-entropy alloy and electric field-assisted sintering technology. The inter-diffusion between the filler and ceramics was improved due to the high-entropy effect and the accelerated diffusion of elements. This approach provides a new and efficient filler system for ceramic brazing.

Brazing ZrB2-SiC ceramics to Nb with a novel CoFeNiCrCu high entropy alloy

Gang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, ZrB2-SiC ceramic and Nb were brazed using a novel high entropy alloy CoFeNiCrCu filler. The newly generated Cr2B improved interfacial bonding strength and a composite microstructure containing a soft FCC and hard Laves phase significantly enhanced joint strength. Furthermore, influences of brazing temperature on interfacial reaction and shear strength of joint were investigated, with successful results at 1160 degrees C for 60 minutes.

Summary: The addition of Ti during brazing process was found to change the structure of the joint and affect the mechanical properties of the material. Experimental results showed that the addition of Ti reduces the room temperature performance of the joint but enhances its high-temperature performance.

Joining of Ti-coated monolithic SiC using a SiCw/Ti3SiC2 filler by electric field-assisted sintering

Teng Yu et al.

Summary: Monolithic SiC was successfully joined using a SiC whisker-reinforced Ti3SiC2 composite filler via electric field-assisted sintering technique, achieving a joint strength higher than 250 MPa. Optimization of process parameters and the addition of up to 15 wt. % SiC whiskers improved joint strength, but a lower joint strength was observed with 20 wt. % SiC whisker addition due to thermal expansion mismatch.

Interfacial microstructure characterization and strength evaluation of Si3N4/Si3N4 joints with Si-Mg composite filler for high-temperature applications

Kazuyuki Kohama

Summary: The research showed that by using different contents of Mg in Si-Mg fillers, Si3N4/Si3N4 joints with different strengths can be achieved. When the Mg content exceeds 37%, the densification/thinning of the Si layer will enhance the tensile strength of the joint, and network-like structures of MgO can be observed in high Mg content situations.
