Experimental investigation and thermodynamic description of the Fe-Hf-Nb system

Jiaxing Sun et al.

Summary: The liquidus surface projection and phase relationships were constructed in the Fe-Hf-Nb system at 1373 and 1273 K based on the solidification microstructure and phase constituents. The composition ranges of Nb in the ternary phase r were determined to be -20.5-30.8 at.% and -20.8-30.2 at.%, respectively. The maximum solubilities of Nb in FeHf2 were -16.9 at.% and -16.0 at.%, and the maximum solubilities of Hf in mu were -4.6 at.% and -3.3 at.%. The thermodynamic parameters of the individual phases were optimized using the CALPHAD method, and a set of self-consistent parameters was obtained for the Fe-Hf-Nb system. (c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. Mechanical performances and processing-property modeling for Al0.3CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy

Wenhui Guo et al.

Summary: The mechanical performances of Al0.3CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy are strongly influenced by processing technology. This study investigates the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy after solution treatment, cold rolling, and annealing, and utilizes backpropagation artificial neural network models to predict its properties. The results demonstrate that twinning induced plasticity contributes to the strength and plasticity of the alloy, while excellent phase stability is observed in both solid solution and cold rolling conditions. The neural network models achieve an average accuracy of 93.4% in predicting elongation, yield, and tensile strength, showing a remarkable agreement with experimental results. The importance of parameters is assessed, with reduction rate, annealing temperature, and solutionizing temperature identified as significant factors.

High corrosion resistance duplex fcc plus hcp cobalt based entropic alloys: An experimental and theoretical investigation

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: A series of duplex fcc + hcp Co-based entropic alloys with outstanding mechanical properties have been discovered. CALPHAD-based thermo-dynamic calculations and electrochemical tests were conducted to understand the alloy design and corrosion behaviors. High corrosion resistance materials with high strength and ductility were found, and various spinel compounds and oxides were observed in the passive films. The breakdown of passive films due to corrosive anion Cl- could lead to pitting corrosion. The microstructure of the alloys played a crucial role in localized anodic dissolution. The theoretical calculations were consistent with experimental observations. This study paves the way for future development of high-performance Co-based entropic alloys in harsh environments.

Multicomponent high-entropy Cantor alloys

B. Cantor

Summary: Multicomponent high-entropy Cantor alloys, discovered in the late 1970s, occupy a vast region of multi-component phase space and exhibit excellent mechanical properties due to high configurational entropy. The complexity of local atomic configurations and associated lattice strains in these alloys contributes to their unique characteristics and potential for further enhancement and optimization.

Resistance sintering of CoCrFeNiAlx (x=0.7, 0.85, 1) high entropy alloys: Microstructural characterization, oxidation and corrosion properties

Y. Garip et al.

Summary: In this study, the cyclic oxidation and electrochemical corrosion behaviors of CoCrFeNiAlx high entropy alloys produced by resistance sintering were investigated. Inclusion engineering in Co-based duplex entropic alloys

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that Co-based alloys with different Cr contents exhibit varying liquidus and solidus temperatures, as well as undercooling during solidification. The stable oxide inclusions in different alloys differ in type and particle size, with theoretical calculations showing the influence of thermo-physical parameters on their coagulation coefficient. The theoretical calculations are in good agreement with experimental findings.
