The relationship between microstructure evolution and impact toughness degeneration of alloy 617B during long term aging

He Jiang et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the impact toughness degeneration and microstructure evolution of alloy 617B during long-term aging at temperatures of 650-725 degrees Celsius for up to 12,000 hours. It was found that the impact toughness decreases significantly even after just 20 hours of aging within the temperature range, and it continues to decrease as the aging time prolongs. The degeneration of impact toughness is attributed to the combined effect of plasticity evolution and grain boundary carbide coarsening. The degeneration process can be divided into rapid decrease stage, slow decrease stage, and stable stage. Sufficient attention should be paid to the impact toughness degeneration when evaluating long-term stability.

Constitutive modeling and dynamic recrystallization mechanism elaboration of FGH96 with severe hot deformation

Chang-an Li et al.

Summary: This paper conducted hot compression experiments to analyze the deformation behavior and dynamic recrystallization of FGH96 at high temperature and strain rate conditions. Two strain modified viscoplastic constitutive models were established and proven to accurately reflect the deformation behavior and suitable for numerical simulation of IFW.

Diffusion bonding of copper alloy to nickel-based superalloy: effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints

Chengcong Zhang et al.

Summary: Successful diffusion bonding between a copper alloy and a Ni-based superalloy was achieved in this study, resulting in sound joints free from intermetallic, pores, and discontinuities. Post-bonding solution treatment followed by ageing restored the tensile strength of the copper alloy up to 77% of its original strength.

Fatigue-creep behaviors of Ni-Fe based superalloy under various testing conditions

Zilong Zhao et al.

Summary: The fatigue-creep properties of Ni-Fe based superalloy under different conditions vary significantly, showing that increasing strain amplitude, temperature, and holding time all have an impact on fatigue cycles. Dislocations bypass second phase particles during deformation, and longer holding time leads to the growth of the second phase, ultimately exceeding the critical size for dislocation cutting.

Evolution of grain boundary character distribution in near-surface regions of a cold-rolled nickel-based superalloy during induction heating process

Zhen Lu et al.

Summary: The influence of induction heating on the grain boundary character distribution in a cold-rolled Nickel-based superalloy was studied. The type of grain boundaries and their distribution were closely related to the evolution of grain structures during induction heating, which was influenced by the heating temperature and strain level.

Investigation of residual stress within linear friction welded steel sheets by alternating pressure via X-ray diffraction and contour method approaches

Ramy Gadallah et al.

Summary: The influence of applied pressure on residual stress behavior in linear friction welded medium carbon steel sheets was thoroughly investigated. Both X-ray diffraction and contour method techniques were used to determine the residual stress and confirmed the impact of applied pressure on its behavior. The study found that increasing pressure decreased tensile residual stress gradient near the weld line and decreased compressive residual stress, leading to a flattening behavior with higher pressure.

Weakening modes for the heat affected zone in Inconel 625 superalloy welded joints under different high temperature rupture conditions

Guanzhi Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the weakening modes of the heat affected zone (HAZ) in IN625 welded joints during stress rupture tests were systematically investigated, revealing that chain-like particles and coarse Laves phase particles play key roles in initiating and propagating micro-cracks, eventually leading to specimen fracture. The study also found a dependence of rupture time on stress levels, with the microstructure and microhardness distribution reflecting the fracture patterns observed.

Hydroforming process of complex T-shaped tubular parts of nickel-based superalloy

Xiao-Lei Cui et al.

Summary: The study successfully implemented the manufacturing of a GH4169 T-shaped tubular part with expanded diameter using a four-step hydroforming process. After removing the top of the side branch, a complex GH4169 T-shaped tubular part with a thickness more than 3 mm was obtained. These results provide important insights for the manufacturing of T-shaped tubular parts with expanded diameter and contribute to the development of the superalloy tube forming process at room temperature.
