Synergistic effects of fly ash and MgO expansive additive on cement paste: Microstructure and performance br

Jinrui Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the synergistic effects of fly ash (FA) and MgO expansive additive (MEA) on the expansion behavior and mechanical properties of cement paste. The results show that the addition of 40% FA and 10% MEA under 40℃ water curing conditions can amplify early expansion and control later expansion effectively. The compressive and flexural strengths of the cement paste increase by up to 20.8% and 15.6% respectively after 90 days. The study also reveals that FA reduces the effect of MEA on the hydration heat of cement and promotes the secondary hydration of cement, resulting in reduced cumulative pores volume and refined pore size.

Investigations on the rehydration of recycled blended SCMs cement

Lei Xu et al.

Summary: The present study explores the dehydration and rehydration behavior of blended SCMs(SF, FA, GGBS, LS)-cement pastes. A comprehensive experimental program combining various techniques was conducted. The results showed that the thermal activation temperature (TAT) significantly affected the rehydration properties of recycled blended cement (RBC) pastes. Different RBC pastes with various precursor components exhibited different microstructure and mechanical properties due to their optimum TAT. The reformation of C(-A)-S-H from the thermal-activated dehydrated amorphous phases played a crucial role in the reactivity and strength gain of RBC as a binder.
