Summary: The study indicates that using seawater, sea sand, and coral instead of traditional materials can solve the scarcity of materials in marine engineering construction. Additionally, fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars have excellent corrosion resistance, which solves the problem of steel corrosion in harsh marine environments. The bond strength between carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars and sea sand coral concrete (SSCC) is higher than that of basalt fibre-reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars and glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars. The bond strength between FRP bars and SSCC decreases with increasing diameter and bond length of FRP bars but increases with increasing SSCC strength grade.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using flue gas residues (FGR) and commercial sodium silicate (CSS) as hybrid activators (HA) for the preparation of alkali-activated materials (AAMs). The results showed that the use of hybrid activators led to the formation of more C-A-S-H gel compared to the control paste, which contained a higher amount of N-A-S-H gel. The analysis also revealed the presence of calcium-rich cross-linked gel (C-(N)-A-S-H) in all the pastes.

Summary: Flue gas residues (FGR) from incineration plants were used as an alternative alkaline activator for producing low-carbon and cost-effective alkali-activated materials (AAMs), along with fly ash (FA) and slag as precursor materials. Microstructure analysis showed the formation of N-A-S-H gel, hybrid gel (C-N-A-S-H), and C-A-S-H gel as the main reaction products. The content of FGR directly influenced the formation of C-A-S-H gel. In the presence of Na2SO4, the volume of Ca-based reaction products (C-N-A-S-H and C-A-S-H) increased due to the activation of slag. The compressive strength of AAMs was in line with the microstructure analysis results. XRD analysis identified the formation of zeolite, apatite, and berlinite as new reaction products. Leaching concentrations of heavy metals in FGR were below the regulatory limits, classifying it as a non-hazardous material.

Summary: This paper presents a study on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with externally bonded basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) sheets through a series of four-point bending experiments. The experimental results demonstrate that the BFRP sheets can significantly enhance the shear capacity and ductility of RC beams. A three-dimensional finite-element model (FEM) incorporating cohesive elements is developed to analyze the fracture and mechanical behaviors of the BFRP sheet-strengthened RC beams. The proposed constitutive models accurately characterize the interface's normal separation, tangential slip, and friction, and the numerical simulations are in good agreement with the experimental results.

This study aimed to produce cementless pastes and mortars based on the alkali activation of raw perlite and standard sand, and investigate the properties and performance of aerated lightweight pastes and mortars using hydrogen peroxide as a blowing agent. The experimental findings revealed that adding 0.25% H2O2 (by mass of perlite) enabled the production of lightweight pastes and mortars with lower density and thermal conductivity without significant strength loss. The developed perlite-based aerated geopolymer provides an eco-friendly and energy-efficient solution for buildings.

Summary: Several three-point-bending experiments were conducted in this study to investigate the influence of fiber content on the fracture behavior of hooked-end steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC). The meso-model was validated through experimental validation and used to investigate the influence of the separation angle of the SFRC fracture interface on the bridging effect of the fibers. Finally, a macro-model of SFRC was proposed to improve computational efficiency and validated with two different experimental cases.

Adding waste glass as a partial replacement for fine aggregate significantly improves the tensile strength, and the increase in flexural strength is proportional to the amount of waste glass added. It is recommended to use waste glass as a replacement for 20% of both fine and coarse aggregates in practical applications.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel approach to determine the target reliability index of concrete structures based on modeling performance degradation as a stochastic process. The approach involves simulating the degradation process using the Wiener process with drift, estimating the drift and diffusion coefficients, deducing the relationship between compressive strength and the amount of degradation, calculating statistical parameters of compressive strength, and determining the reliability index of a structure at different service life. Additionally, the time-varying failure probability of structural durability degradation is calculated based on the drift Wiener process model, and a comparison is made between the calculated time-varying reliability index and the time-varying failure probability to determine the recommended values of target reliability index for structural bearing capacity.
