Modulation Based on a Simple MDS Code: Achieving Better Error Performance Than Index Modulation and Related Schemes

Ferhat Yarkin et al.

Summary: This paper proposes two novel modulation concepts based on a simple MDS code, which achieve better error performance than IM and related schemes. The first concept uses amplitude and phase levels, while the second one uses in-phase and quadrature components to construct the MDS code. Practical schemes for using the proposed concepts with OFDM are depicted. Performance analysis in terms of minimum Euclidean distance and bit error rate is presented. The proposed techniques exhibit desirable properties such as low-complexity detection, simple bits-to-symbols and symbols-to-bits mappings, and better error performance compared to OFDM-IM and related schemes.

Waveform Learning for Next-Generation Wireless Communication Systems

Faycal Ait Aoudia et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a learning-based method for joint design of transmit and receive filters, constellation geometry, bit labeling, and a neural network-based detector. The method maximizes achievable information rate while satisfying constraints on ACLR and PAPR. Evaluation on AWGN and multipath channels shows significant reduction in ACLR and PAPR with comparable information rates, making it an attractive tool for waveform design in beyond-5G systems.

Reliable and Secure Deep Learning-Based OFDM-DCSK Transceiver Design Without Delivery of Reference Chaotic Sequences

Haotian Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, we propose an intelligent OFDM-DCSK transceiver design based on deep learning to enhance the reliability and security performances of vehicular channels. By utilizing time-delay neural network and long short-term memory units, the correlations between chaotic modulated signals are learned and exploited. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed intelligent system can achieve better bit error rate and security performances over fast fading and railway channels compared with benchmark systems.

Triangular FM-OFDM Waveform Design for Integrated Sensing and Communication

Yuan Wang et al.

Summary: The integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology supports the development of emerging services in the 5G-A and 6G eras. A new ISAC waveform combining triangular frequency modulation (FM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is proposed, along with a delay-Doppler decoupling radar signal processing scheme that improves sensing performance and estimation resolution.

Wideband Multi-User MIMO Communications with Frequency Selective RISs: Element Response Modeling and Sum-Rate Maximization

Konstantinos D. Katsanos et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the application of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) in wideband communication while considering the frequency selectivity of RISs. Researchers aim to maximize the achievable transmission rate by designing and controlling the response of RIS metamaterial elements, and simulation results are used to demonstrate the performance loss of current methods that assume RIS elements behave as frequency-flat phase shifters.

Simple Gray Coding and LLR Calculation for MDS Modulation Systems

Ferhat Yarkin et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a modulation technique based on maximum distance separable (MDS) code, known as MDS modulation, which provides simple and effective solutions to practical problems such as Gray coding and log-likelihood ratio calculations. By comparing with index modulation (IM) methods, it is demonstrated that MDS modulation outperforms IM in terms of coding error performance and complexity.
