Solar Hydrogen

Zhongxiao Li et al.

Summary: Hydrogen, a zero-pollution, sustainable, low-cost, and high-efficiency energy source, has great potential for the 21st century. Solar water-splitting techniques, such as photovoltaic-electrolysis (PV-EC) and photoelectrochemistry (PEC), have shown promise with solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency over 10%. However, there is a gap between laboratory research and practical application, which can be addressed by understanding the basic principles, historical developments, and performing comprehensive techno-economic analysis.

Carbon nanotube-polyoxometalate nanohybrids as efficient electro-catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction

Dhanaji Jawale et al.

Summary: In this study, electroactive hybrid nanomaterials were assembled by non-covalent, layer-by-layer deposition of tungsten-based polyoxometalates on carbon nanotubes. Chemical functionalization allowed for the homogeneous coverage of polyoxometalates on the nanotubes. Electrochemical characterization highlighted the positive contribution of the nanotube platform to the stability and catalytic performance of immobilized POM species when applied to the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Atomically dispersed Ni on Mo2C embedded in N, P co-doped carbon derived from polyoxometalate supramolecule for high-efficiency hydrogen evolution electrocatalysis

Yukun Lu et al.

Summary: A novel supramolecular-confinement pyrolysis strategy was proposed to construct ultrafine Ni-Mo2C nanoparticles uniformly distributed on N,P co-doped carbon (NPC). The Ni-Mo2C/NPC material exhibited remarkable electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction, showing great potential for clean energy conversion. The study demonstrated the development of high-active HER catalytic sites through atomic-scale catalyst design, providing opportunities for fabricating low-cost and efficient catalysts.

New Water Oxidation Electrocatalyst Based on the Cobalt-Containing Polyoxometalate-Reduced Graphene Oxide Hybrid Nanomaterial

Samaneh Shahsavarifar et al.

Summary: A new hybrid nanomaterial based on the immobilization of cobalt-containing polyoxometalate (CoPOM) on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was designed for efficient electrocatalytic water splitting. The hybrid nanomaterial exhibited a low overpotential and fast reaction kinetics due to electrostatic interaction between aminopropylsilyl-functionalized rGO and anionic CoPOM. Linear sweep voltammetry analysis confirmed the long-term stability and activity of CoPOM-APTS-rGO for water oxidation in neutral conditions.
