Emerging Role of Mechanical Forces in Cell Fate Acquisition

Yanina Alvarez et al.

Summary: Mechanical forces play a crucial role in embryonic development by influencing cell fate decisions and tissue patterning. The generation and transduction of actomyosin-contractile force are particularly important in regulating tissue morphogenesis and cell fate in the embryo.

Biocompatibility of Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Retinal Progenitor Cell Grafts in Immunocompromised Rats

Ian C. Han et al.

Summary: Loss of photoreceptor cells is a common feature of retinal degenerative disorders. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) offer a promising solution for photoreceptor cell replacement. However, the challenge lies in delivering the donor cells effectively. The use of supportive biomaterials can enhance cell survival and integration with the host retina.

The effect of retinal scaffold modulus on performance during surgical handling

Rion J. Wendland et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of scaffold modulus on surgical handling using photocrosslinked poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate as a model polymer. It found that scaffolds with shear modulus above 35 kPa performed satisfactorily in handling, while those below this limit were too fragile for reliable transplantation. Moreover, there was increased variability in surgical handling performance in samples with shear moduli above 800 kPa.
