Cardiac structural and functional abnormalities in primary hyperparathyroidism

S. Purra et al.

Summary: Symptomatic patients with PHPT exhibit significant cardiac structural and functional abnormalities, including increased LVMI, diastolic dysfunction, and various cardiac calcifications. Serum PTH, calcium, and uric acid are correlated with calcifications, while serum calcium has a negative correlation with E/A ratio.

Clinical Characteristics of Primary Hyperparathyroidism: 15-Year Experience of 457 Patients in a Single Center in China

Xiaoyun Lin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical characteristics and differences between benign and malignant primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in a cohort of 457 Chinese patients. Most patients exhibited symptomatic patterns, such as bone pain and urolithiasis, with an increasing proportion of asymptomatic cases. Patients with higher serum levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcium also had higher levels of bone turnover markers and lower 25-hydroxy-vitamin D values. Parathyroid carcinoma patients showed significantly higher levels of PTH, calcium, and bone turnover markers, and lower bone mineral density at the femoral neck and total hip compared to benign PHPT patients. However, there were no significant differences in age, sex, and serum 25OHD concentration between benign and malignant PHPT patients.
