Mechanisms of cardiac dysfunction in diabetic cardiomyopathy: molecular abnormalities and phenotypical variants

Francesca Romana Prandi et al.

Summary: Diabetic cardiomyopathy is a diabetes-induced condition that leads to changes in cardiac structure, function, and metabolism, potentially causing heart failure. Metabolic alterations and cellular molecular mechanisms play crucial roles in its development. Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets for preventing and reversing heart failure in diabetic patients.

The Role of miRNAs in Metabolic Diseases

Mirjana Macvanin et al.

Summary: Metabolic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance, are global health problems characterized by alterations in glucose and lipid metabolism. Recent studies have highlighted the important role of micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) in regulating metabolic processes. miRNAs are non-coding RNAs that interact with target gene mRNAs through base pairing, ultimately inhibiting their translation. They play a significant role in various physiological processes and their involvement in the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases is continuously expanding. This review discusses the role of miRNAs in insulin production, fat metabolism, and their potential as biomarkers for predicting diabetes and MetS. Therapeutic interventions targeting miRNAs in metabolic disorders are also presented, including antisense oligonucleotides and the CRISPR/Cas9 editing platform.

Summary: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a complication of diabetes that leads to high mortality. The exact cause of DCM is unclear, but it is believed to be related to metabolic dysfunction or diabetic microangiopathy. Oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathogenesis of DCM, affecting various signaling pathways.

The microRNA analysis portal is a next-generation tool for exploring and analyzing miRNA-focused data in the literature

Stefano Pirro et al.

Summary: MicroRNAs are noncoding small RNAs that regulate posttranscriptional processes in many biological pathways. The MicroRNA Analysis Portal (MAP) is a comprehensive database that selects relevant articles, links molecular data, and applies bioinformatics modules to analyze microRNAs. MirCompare 2.0, integrated into MAP, helps select plant microRNAs that may regulate mammalian genes. MAP and MirCompare were used to predict potential roles of Moringa oleifera microRNAs in regulating human immune system genes, particularly in host-virus interactions.
