Metabolic Obesity in People with Normal Body Weight (MONW)-Review of Diagnostic Criteria

Summary: Disorders of metabolic obesity with normal body weight (MONW) are recognized as risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes, but they are not diagnosed in clinical practice. There is no consensus on the definition of MONW, and measuring insulin resistance or obesity among non-obese individuals is not widely applicable. Understanding the relationship between metabolic disorders like MONW and higher mortality risk from cardiovascular causes prompts the need for action to effectively detect metabolic abnormalities in individuals with normal body weight.

Association between different obesity phenotypes and hypothyroidism: a study based on a longitudinal health management cohort

Summary: Obese individuals, especially males, have a higher risk of developing hypothyroidism, with differing associations based on obesity phenotypes and age groups. While obesity and metabolic abnormalities are linked to a higher risk of hypothyroidism in males, this association is weaker in females. Further investigation is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms of these sex and age differences in the association between obesity phenotypes and hypothyroidism.
